Zen Riders Iron Butt Events

The Zen Riders Motorcycle Club regularly hosts IBA-sanctioned Iron Butt events so mark your calendar!

For more information on the Iron Butt Association, please visit their site at www.ironbutt.com.

NOTE The Iron Butt Association has been running very late with their certifications and are actively catching up. They've told us people have been hired to get rid of the backlog and get future certifications done in a more timely manner. All 2006 ride certifications are currently out for printing. To cover the increased staffing costs they expect to be raising their fees for 2008.

Iron Butt Events for 2008
May 31 - June 1, 2008 Saddle Sore 1000
Lower Great Lakes 1000
For 2008 the Zen Riders Motorcycle Club has decided to push the ride date a little further into the year as mid-May's weather tends to be unpredictable (usually cold & wet), plus we get a little bit more daylight. We plan to offer both a Saddle Sore 1000 and Lower Great Lakes 1000. both of which require the rider to travel at least 1,000 miles within 24 hours.

We will be starting this ride between 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM on Saturday May 31st from the Canadian Tire Gas Bar on Rutherford Road, just east of Highway 400 near Canada's Wonderland. The early start minimizes night-time riding.

Should you plan to participate in either of these IBA rides, then please RSVP to Sporty at the following email address, and note that though they are great rides, you must ride smart and safely.

Sporty is reachable at sporty@zenriders.ca. Include your name and details on when you plan to check in and we'll look for you that day.

For more information about the Saddle Sore ride check out http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/getdocument.cfm?DocID=1 and for the Lower Great Lakes 1000, http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/getdocument.cfm?DocID=28.

Iron Butt Events for 2007
May 12-13, 2007 SaddleSore 1000
For 2007 the Zen Riders Motorcycle club returns to a pair of rides that participants enjoyed back in 2004. Riders can select a route that circumnavigates Lakes Huron and Michigan or one that stays entirely within Canada. Successfully completing either run will qualify the rider for a Saddle Sore 1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours).

We will be starting this ride between 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM on Saturday May 12th from the Canadian Tire Gas Bar on Rutherford Road, just east of Highway 400 near Canada's Wonderland. The early start minimizes night-time riding.

Should you plan to participate in this challenging IBA ride, then please RSVP to Sporty at the following email address, and note that it's a great ride, but you must ride smart and safely.

Sporty is reachable at sporty@zenriders.ca. Include your name and details on when you plan to check in and we'll look for you that day.

Iron Butt Events for 2006
May 13-14, 2006 Lower Great Lakes 1000

The Zen Riders Motorcycle Club presents its IronZen Event for 2006.

This is the officially sanctioned Iron Butt Association ride around the perimeter of the lower great lakes of Ontario and Erie. The total distance around the lakes is about 1,040 miles or 1,670 kilometers and it must be completed within 24 (twenty-four) hours.

The rules are identical to those of a SaddleSore 1000 miler, except that you must document your ride around the perimeter of Lake Erie AND Lake Ontario AND you must START and FINISH in the same location (this must be a complete circle of the lakes).

We will be starting this ride between 4:00 AM to 7:00 AM on Saturday May 13th from the Canadian Tire Gas Bar on Rutherford Road, just east of Highway 400.

The preferred route is to travel west to Detroit, south to Toledo, east to Syracuse, north to Gananoque and west to Toronto and the start point. We estimate your arrival at the finish point between 9:00 PM to 6:59 AM on Sunday, May 14th.

Zen Riders will be around to give you forms, sign you in, witness your papers and send you merrily on your way.

Please note that this ride is not a processional ride - it is a time-specific ride for you and the bike alone. It is recommended that you ride with a 'buddy' in case things happen you'll have someone to help you out.

Iron Butt Events for 2005
May 14-15, 2005 Lower Great Lakes 1000

The Zen Riders Motorcycle Club presents the "Lower Great Lakes 1000", an official Iron Butt Association ride around Lakes Ontario and Erie. The total distance will be about 1040 miles (1670km) and must be completed within 24 hours.

The rules are identical to those of a SaddleSore 1000, except you must document your ride around the perimeter of Lake Erie AND Lake Ontario AND you must start and finish in the same location you started from (this must be a complete circle of the lakes).

The start time of the ride is 1:30pm on Saturday May 14 from the Canadian Tire Gas Bar on Rutherford Road just east of Highway 400.

The preferred route is to travel west to Detroit, south to Toledo, east to Syracuse, north to Gananoque and west to Toronto and the start point. We estimate your arrival at the finish point by 8:30 am on Sunday. The late start time is suggested as it will allow you to miss the potential traffic backlogs at the two border crossings and traffic congestion in the Detroit and Akron area. Night riding across I-90 should be a breeze as the reduced overnight traffic should allow for constant speed limit travel.

As usual, forms and witnesses will be supplied by the Zen Riders MC (host club) and all participants are invited to join the Zen Riders for breakfast at the conclusion of the ride at the Rock 'N Roll Diner on 9671 Jane Street in Maple Ontario (this is across the street from the mountain at Canada's Wonderland Park) south of Major Mackenzie, or north of Rutherford Road. From the parking lot at Canadian Tire, head back after you've been witnessed, to Jane Street, head north to the second stoplight and turn into the plaza.

If you are planning to participate in this challenging IBA ride, then please RSVP to sporty@zenriders.ca.
