Journal Entry: Report 5 - Mumbles Rides Everything
March 8, 2001

It seems that Mumbles has been getting subliminal messages when he is sleeping, because he woke up earlier than the other Zens, jumped on his trusted steed and headed for Daytona Speedway to roadtest the new Goldwing.

Unfortunately, a bus load of Goldwing riders arrived before Mumbles and booked up all the test rides of the new GL1800 for the day.

Not to be heart broken, Mumbles settled for a ride on the new Honda VTX 1800, and from what I can understand from his verbal ride report, the bike is awesome to say the least. Lots of torque, great handling and comfort.

He then headed for the Kawasaki tent and road tested a 1500 Nomad and gave the bike the thumbs up, however his test of the Yamaha 1600 left him wanting more power for a bike with 1600cc, and I have to agree with him on that!

The rest of us late risers headed to Flager County Fairgrounds (145km away) for what is billed as "the world's largest swap meet." A typical Harley swap meet with some entertainment from a human cannon and a professional trials rider. Cowboy Bob purchased a set of Harley handlebar risers for his Vulcan, and the rest of us found little trinkets that seemed to fit on our bikes -- we'll know later. Then the 2.5 hour ride home through major traffic jams in Orlando for a dinner barbecue.

Back at the condo, Mumbles fired up the outdoor barbeque about the same time as the resort's sprinkler system came on. I suggested that he wear his rain gear, but he declined, so he got wet.

After dinner, we inaugurated our first "Sticky" ride, in honour of Stickboy's birthday as it occurs during Bike Week. We headed to downtown Orlando for the first annual biker evening sponsored by Orlando Harley. There were about two hundred bikes, with a lot of custom and vintage bikes. Then our ride back home via the Krispy Kreme in Orlando for some "Sticky" donuts. Now, 350km later, it's time for some shut eye, as tomorrow promises to be another busy action-packed day as Bike Week heads into the weekend finale.

Weather today: High 74, Low 42 and not a cloud in the sky.
